World Children’s Day 2024 is on Thursday, 20 November 2025. Children’s Day is an international observance and not a public holiday. All the UN member countries celebrate Childrens’ Day according to their specified dates.

History of World Children’s Day
In 1857, Dr. Charles Leonard started this day by naming it Rose Day in the United Kingdom.
In 1920, the Republic of Turkey officially acknowledged Children’s Day as a national holiday.
In 1950, many countries started to celebrate June 1, as “Children Protection Day”
In 1954 United Nations established “Universal Children’s Day” with a date of 20th November yearly. The UN General Assembly prescribed all countries to come up with a day for children at a suitable date of their choice to promote awareness about children’s rights, togetherness and improve children’s welfare.
On November 20, 1959, United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and on 20, November 1989 UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The anniversary of both these Declaration and Convention is also marked by the UN on every 20th November since 1990.
